Are you serving God or god(s)?

If you are unfamiliar, lowercase g god and God are absolutely different from one another. For some, this may be a no brainer like “duh Dejah,” but for many, the word “God” is universal and applies to the same God whether it is god or God. Okay, let me break it down.

God

Holy Trinity of God the Father, God the son, God the Holy Spirit

Created the heavens and the earth

All knowing and omnipresent

God of all gods

Lord of all lords

King of all kings

The True God

The Holy Bible serves as the only doctrine

Believers are saved through the blood of Jesus

I can admit that whenever I heard someone referencing God, I easily assumed they were talking about the same God I serve. In my mind and even out loud sometimes, I’d be like “ok cool, we on the same page!” Well, God has politely snatched me up and said “no baby.” I quickly learned that the reality of it is, we’re not. A lot of people we see on an everyday basis and those who have large platforms are misleading people… and yes, they’re referencing lowercase g gods by God. To be real with you, there may even be someone reading this post who is doing the same whether it’s intentionally or unintentionally. Either way, a clear understanding is necessary so that you aren’t mislead, confused, or deceived.

Now, I only included some very basic distinctions between the two. By no means are the two comparable. I encourage you to seek more to gain a deeper understanding so that you can begin navigating where you stand when it comes to this. Being deceived by others is one thing, but don’t deceive yourself. The Bible is very clear about serving idols and what will happen when it’s all said and done. Below are some scriptures to get started with.

Why is this important? As you can see, God is very clear about serving Him and Him only. When we’re unsure about who we serve, it leads to misrepresentation, mishandling, confusion, and misguidance. We may also lack fear of our consequences. I encourage you to examine your life and start determining if you stand with God or god(s). I’m not encouraging you to figure it all out, but I am encouraging you not to assume anything. Be sure about seeking, serving, and loving who you think you are.
