Devotional: Partnering with God

Updated: Mar 31, 2023

Message

Where have you fallen short in your partnership with God?

As we know, a true partnership means many things. It means teamwork, collaboration, trust, unity, consideration, accountability, and more. When you partner with someone, that means you respect their opinion, you recognize the value they add, and you trust them. Without these things, a partnership will crumble.

Ask yourself:

Where have I dropped the ball when partnering with God?

Where have I lacked discipline and accountability?

Have I been partnering with God or trying to do everything myself?

Tasks are delegated in partnerships to balance the weight of responsibilities, but sometimes we expect God to do all the work. There are even times when we hog all the tasks and leave God with nothing to do. Think of this as a group project in school. I'm sure you remember the times you had to carry the group to an A because you couldn't risk failing the project. It's very similar to God. Our insecurities, lack of control, pride, fear of failing, and more can keep us from trusting Him as our partner, so we just "do it ourselves." (0/10, do not recommend)

Plot twist: There are also times when we sit and wait for Him to do everything. So now He is the student carrying all the weight of the project.

Well, what does partnering with God look like?

Telling Him when you need help

Trying instead of doubting

Trusting His instruction

Sharing the tasks

Speaking up when you still need help along the way

Scripture

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

A reminder that there is a time for everything. Things are not meant to be the same in different seasons of our lives. What we did before has prepared us for what to do now.

Proverbs 3:5

God will not steer us wrong. He's the best partner we could ever have.

Psalm 54:4

God is our HELPER!

James 1:5

If we lack wisdom, we are to ask God and he will provide it.

Samson: I remind you of the book of Judges where Samson lacked true partnership with God. He was so focused on the things he wanted, he didn't stop to ask God about anything. God still used Samson, but he could've gone so much farther and been so much greater in life had he taken the time to partner with God. Oftentimes, we stand in our own way.

Prayer points

Repent for the times you didn't ask God for help. Repent for the times you've asked God for help and failed to receive it. Repent for not trusting Him out of fear. Repent for being a poor gatekeeper of your ideas. Repent for hoarding knowledge that could've helped someone else. Repent for the things the Holy Spirit brings to you...

Prayer point 1: God, what areas of my life have I failed to surrender to You? How can I improve my partnership with You and become a team player?

Prayer point 2: Lord, where have I dropped the ball? Where have I sat still when You gave me instructions to act? Where have I missed opportunities because of time sensitivity? How can I make sure I don't repeat the same mistakes?

Prayer point 3: Lord, is there anything I have gatekept that I shouldn't have? Are there times when I was supposed to share, but I kept quiet? (Ideas, knowledge, revelation, testimonies, resources, etc.) Am I currently gatekeeping things that You say are ready to be released?

Prayer point 4: Lord, help me to protect what You are doing in my life. Please show me the times when I've overshared when I should've been a better gatekeeper of my ideas, thoughts, emotions, words, etc.

Declarations (confess with your mouth out loud)

Proverbs 3:5

I decree and declare that God will not steer me wrong, He is the best partner I could ever have.

Psalm 54:4

I decree and declare God is my helper.

James 1:5

I decree and declare that when I lack wisdom, I will ask God and He will provide it.

Proverbs 13:20

I decree and declare that I will walk with the wise and will become wise.
